Corazon Maquirang was so excited to finally went home from being an Overseas Filipino Worker. With her were her luggage and a big ‘balik-bayan box’ which contains a lot of pasalubongs for her family.
However, after arriving at her house, she was shocked and disappointed upon opening the box as some expensive items were allegedly missing.
“Mga hayop na ‘yon, ako pang dinali! OFW lang ako…nakakadismaya naman. Minsan ka nga lang uuwi, magbabakasyon ka tapos ganun pa mangyayari,” she said.
Maquirang claimed that 6 plastic bags containing valuables and souvenirs was taken from the box by the NAIA’s personnel.
Although she noticed the box was opened while she’s still at the airport, the OFW didn’t mind to check it since it was “taped” by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) of USA.
Unfortunately, after having a conversation with the TSA through e-mail, they explained to her that if the box was really opened in the US, there should have a sticker or a mark with a “notice of inspection.”
This means the airport personnel are using TSA’s security tape to tamper the boxes letting passengers believe they’re still secured and unharmed.
Later on, if they found something unusual or missing from the boxes, it would be TSA’s fault.
“Dito sa Pilipinas tinira ‘yan kahon. Talagang hindi nagbabago ‘yang NAIA na ‘yan. President Duterte do something about this,” she added.
Meanwhile, the spoksperson Ed Monreal of the Manila International Airport Authority promised that he will help investigate matter.
