Dandruff develop due to a dry scalp or a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis. It could also be caused by eczema, psoriasis or very commonly an overgrowth of a yeast like fungus called Malassezia.
People having this condition experience non-stop itching, a dry scalp and annoying white flakes that could be visible when your wearing dark clothes.
However, here are some home remedies to get rid of your dandruff.
Baking Soda: It acts as a scrub and exfoliates the scalp gently, without irritating it and removing dead skin cells. According to some research, baking soda along with its exfoliation and anti-fungal properties, it also soothes the scalp and reduces redness and itching. You can simply add some baking soda to your shampoo while washing hair to derive its benefits.
Apple Cider Vinegar: The acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it harder for yeast to grow. Mix same amount of apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spritz on your scalp. Wrap your head in a towel and let it stay for 15 minutes, then after that, wash your hair well. Repeat this method twice a week.
Aloe Vera: It exfoliates the skin and has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. It can be applied in the scalp and then washed off with a medicated anti-dandruff or mild shampoo.
Aspirin: It contains the same active ingredient (salicylic acid) as many medicated dandruff shampoos. Add it to the normal amount of shampoo you use each time you wash your hair. Leave the mixture on your hair for 1-2 minutes, then rinse well and wash again with plain shampoo.
Coconut Oil: It helps eliminate dandruff due to its antifungal properties. It also moisturizes dry scalp and provides relief from itching. Take some coconut oil and mix half the amount of lemon juice in it and then rub it on your scalp and massage for a few minutes. Wash your hair after at least 20 minutes. Follow this remedy two to three times a week.
