Awareness of the negative health effects of gluten has increased in the past few years. That is why a lot of Americans are actively trying to eliminate gluten from their diets.
What is Gluten?
Gluten is the protein aspect of certain grains, including wheat, barley, rye and spelt. When you eat these grains, or foods containing them, you are eating gluten.
Why is Gluten Unhealthy?
The simple truth is that humans cannot digest gluten. We can consume foods that we can’t digest.
The dangers of gluten come into play when we consume large amounts of it at every meal, for example and especially if we have a genetic tendency to react to gluten.
Below are the possible effects of too much gluten in the body:
1. Chronic migraine
People who are gluten intolerant are usually suffering from severe headaches. Namely these headaches usually occur 30-60 minutes after the meal.
2. Itching skin
If you are having some problems with your digestive tract, then these problems can sometimes be manifested through itching, eczema, dry or irritated skin.
3. Fibromyalgia
Also known as soft tissue rheumatism, this disease is a pain in the muscles, tendons and ligaments. This usually affects females.
4. Lactose Intolerance
Heartburn, feeling bloated or simply do not feel well after consuming dairy products are symptoms of lactose intolerance.
5. Chronic fatigue
If you usually sleep about 8-9 hours each night, and yet you still wake up exhausted, then it is time to start paying attention to what you eat.
6. Mood swings
Most of the people who are gluten intolerant often feel anxiety or excitement for no reason. Also in many cases they can be irritable and even depressed.
9. Stomach aches
You will feel sick and your stomach will “complain”, if you do not eat well or you cannot stand some of the food.
10. Dizziness
Most of the people who are gluten intolerant usually feel dizzy after eating, a similar feeling of losing balance.
